Wordpress - How To Undo Spammed Comments

I still don’t understand why wordpress wouldn’t allow users to access the spammed comment’s page since. Or if there are some kind souls which had came out with the plugin to manage the spammed comments within your wordpress dashboard, I dont know… but ocne again, i’ve tried googling for an answer but it seems like no one ever stumbled on this issue before.

I’d accidentally marked a bunch of “proper comments” yesterday while working on my wordpress dashboard and I couldn’t undo anything at all, as well as accessing the spammed comments page.

Well, here’s some old school html hack, a simple trick to do the magic.

IF you ever had this problem where you would like to undo the changes to the managed comments, don’t go all the way to your phpmyadmin to search for your database and messing it up instead.

Step #1

From your wordpress dashboard, click the tab “Comments”.

*for your info, i’m using the latest wordpress version, 2.6.3.

Once you’re at the Comments management screen, you will be able to view all your approved comments. If you’d noticed your url/address bar in your internet browser… you should see the below link.

Step #2

Click on “Approved” tab next to the “Awaiting Moderation” queue tab.

And by now, look at your address bar and you should the address showing the line below…

http://www.yourdomain.com/your wp-admin directory/edit-comments.php?comment_status=approved

Step #3

http://www.yourdomain.com/your wp-admin directory/edit-comments.php?comment_status=spam

Change the address from “approved” to “spam” and tada…! you should be able to view a list of previously marked as “spam” comments in your dashboard. This page has never been published by wordpress, i dont know why.

Check all the comments that you want it to appear once again in your approved comments screen, and approved it once again then refresh your site.That should do the magic!
